The 68th Edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) will take effect from 1 January 2027, with IATA now releasing details of the significant changes and amendments.
The new edition incorporates amendments from the 2027–2028 ICAO Technical Instructions, together with changes adopted by the IATA Dangerous Goods Board.
Key IATA DGR Changes for 2027
Some of the notable changes include:
- New and amended requirements for lithium and sodium-ion batteries
- Changes affecting power banks and spare batteries carried by passengers
- New entries for UN 3563 Lithium metal batteries installed in cargo transport unit and UN 3564 Sodium ion batteries installed in cargo transport unit
- Updates to numerous IATA Packing Instructions, including PI 965, 966, 967, 968, 969 and 970
- Changes to dangerous goods marking and labelling, including the battery mark
- Updates to classification, special provisions, documentation and handling requirements
Businesses shipping dangerous goods by air should review the changes ahead of their introduction on 1 January 2027.
