UN Approved 4G packaging is designed to safely contain and transport dangerous goods in compliance with stringent United Nations regulatory standards. Manufactured from robust corrugated fibreboard, 4G packaging incorporates reinforced construction and secure closures to withstand the rigours of transport.
Each 4G package is type tested and certified for a specific configuration, including the type, size, quantity and arrangement of inner packagings, the maximum gross mass and the method of closure and cushioning used during testing. As discussed, 4G packaging must only be used in the exact configuration for which it was tested and approved.
For example, if a 4G box was tested using glass bottles of a particular volume and quantity with specific cushioning, it cannot be used with different inner packagings, alternative materials or higher inner weights.
By comparison, UN Approved 4GV packaging is designed to allow for non-specific inner packagings and configurations, provided the maximum tested gross/inner mass is not exceeded and the package is prepared in accordance with the assembly instructions. This makes 4GV packaging a more flexible option for shippers working with varying products or inner containers.
